It would be fun to me if I won it one more time as a last one and as a almost student ... :)

Society of Illustrators: Student Competition 2011
Deadline: February 2nd, 2011
Every year since 1981 the Society has held the Student Scholarship Competition. Over a hundred works are chosen from more than 6,000 entries submitted by professors of college-level students nationwide. In a competition which can kick start a career, students bring their most sophisticated, well-crafted and original work to be tested. A jury of professional peers, including illustrators and art directors, selects the most outstanding works created throughout the year. Pieces are accepted based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used.
Each spring the Student Scholarship Exhibition is held in the galleries of the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators, where awards and certificates are given to the students during an Opening Reception. Also honored during the Reception are Distinguished Educators in the Arts, a prestigious award presented to educators who have made a strong impact on illustration as both a teacher and an artist.
The cost is $5 per entry. ONLY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS can enter student work.

It will be my last chance to submit my works, or could be the last chance in my life :)

6 hours Exercise
6 hours test for job interview..
They gave me only 7 colors and want me to copy exactly same like the picture in it..
I brought my brushes.. that was good idea.. :P
It was intense work in 6 hours. Especially, after 4 hours driving.
It suppose take 2 and half hours to get there, but my stupid GPS gave me hard time.
I drove all 7 hours yesterday. I died after I got home.
However, doing work front of people in short time limit was fun.
It has been a while feeling it.
after the test to get into art university in Korea, I didn't really have chance to do it.
I should do myself sometimes..

Korean Contemporary Art
Art by Shin Sun-Mi
I like this artist's work because she twisted traditional painting skill with modern subjects well.
When people think about traditional Asian painting, beautiful flowers in calm air or
gorgeous range with mysterious cloud..
I am a Korean and even I have some stereo types of Asian painting.
That is beautiful and great!! but no Fun or Cute.. :)
What I admire several things from her is that the artist distinguished
Korean tradition from Asian culture.
That is also one of things that I want to work on my work too.

Colored Halloween Kid

Color is sooooo difficult...
I love vintage feeling... They are adorable.. But sometimes, it looks little out dated in my work. My major was fine art, so I think that I still have some habits from realistic painting.. Now, I am trying to modernize my work. I try to use bright pop up colors and simple way of painting. I am not sure yet what I should give up or contain.., but I believe that playing with many colors will be a interesting journey of my work.

Happy Too Much Halloween..? 2010
' I was a Devil...!!' : Moms love to worry.
It is getting cold outside.. and Halloween is coming too..! Every Halloween, I made a little postcard for close friends. ( since two year ago though.. ) This year, I drew a little kid who put a lot of cloths on because of my mom.. My family lives in Korea. In Korea, they already had a first snow two days ago.. My mom always worries about my health and happiness.. so she always tell me 'Put a thick jacket on when you go out.' 'Do exercise.' 'Eat healthy.'.... I love what my mom says and I miss that.
In the drawing.. the kid is wearing a devil Halloween costume under thick clothing layers. His mom worried about he might catch a cold.. Even though it didn't work well with a Halloween costume, I will call it, L.O.V.E

Old Cat
by great painter Jang woo sock
I usually see cute or sleepy cats in paintings all the time, but actually cats are not that sweet all the time... ( um.. maybe only to me..? ) When I found this Korean traditional painting, I felt it is a real cat. A real cat which is sharp, mad and ready to run away...

Not what man knows but what man feels, concerns art.
art by Anna Emilia
'Not what man knows but what man feels, concerns art. All else is science'
Bernard Berenson, 1987
Art is the way of seeing the world. As an artist, I think we all need to have a heart that could cry or laugh because of one clump of grass. And when I find these kinds of picture, I see beautiful eyes that see our world beautifully..
